(A statue representing the legendary Kugtong & the Kugtong spring) The Spanish Conquistadores changed it to "Alcantara" and named it after one of their provinces in Spain because of similar geographical locations, such as a bridge connecting the school and the public market.  Alcantara was an Arabic word Al-Qantarah ( the bridge ).  Was previously a barrio of Moalboal but was separated and became a town in 1830.
